Scientists in this program are identifying the cellular compartments and processes that target proteins and lipids to their proper cellular destinations and how these events are disrupted in disease. Success in this venture leads to identification of the cell's sorting and targeting machinery, high-resolution structures of the proteins, how the physical interactions among proteins and membranes are regulated and how they govern the kinetics of membrane transit.
