University of Pittsburgh Department of Cell Biology

Cell Biology Summer Undergraduate Research Program

The Cell Biology and Physiology Summer Undergraduate Research Program(SURP) at the University of Pittsburgh seeks to provide undergraduate students with laboratory experience in the biomedical sciences and to introduce them to graduate student life. The program will expose students to the broad range of scientific approaches used to examine normal and disease processes at the molecular, cellular, and systems level. Each student will conduct an independent research project under the supervision of a faculty mentor. At the end of the ten week program, SURP students will present their research to the department.

The SURP program is designed for students seriously considering graduate school or a career in biomedical research. Undergraduate students that have completed their Sophomore or Junior year are eligible for the program; students from groups underrepresented in the sciences are encouraged to apply. Students will receive a stipend of $3500 for the ten week program. Additional funding for housing and transportation may also be available.
